Mission
and Program Description:
This program is divided into a basic core area
and a specialty networking area. The basic core courses of study
will prepare individuals to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain
computer systems and basic local area network problems. Students
will also learn to operate a computer using current operating
system software and use current application software for
manipulating spreadsheets, databases, and word processing
documents.
The specialty networking area will prepare
students to design, implement, and manage linked systems of
computers, peripherals, and associated software to maximize
efficiency and productivity. The program includes instruction in
operating systems and applications; systems design and analysis;
networking theory and solutions; types of networks; network
management and control; network and flow optimization; security;
configuring; and troubleshooting. Electives will be provided to
prepare students to successfully implement, manage, and
troubleshoot the ongoing needs of Microsoft Windows® based
operating environments.
The curriculum provides both knowledge
acquisition and skills development for those who are currently
working in the information technology field and would like to
obtain industry-based certifications or for those who would like
to prepare for employment in this field. The program is designed
to prepare students to successfully pass national,
industry-based exams such as: CompTIA’s A+, Network+, Server+,
IC3, Microsoft MCSE and Microsoft MCSA.

Note: Transferable General Education Courses needed to meet the requirements for the AAS are offered through a collaborative agreement with South Louisiana Community College (SLCC).
The objectives of the Info Comm Technology: Computer Network
Specialist program are:
- To develop and maintain an updated curriculum for Info
Comm Technology: Computer Network Specialist using approved
instructional methods.
- To offer feasible, comprehensive, and specific
vocational training in the computer/networking area to
prepare students to successfully pass industry-based
certification tests.
- To provide a training program that will develop proper
work habits, acceptable computer/networking skills, superior
work procedures, and a desirable professional attitude.
- To provide an atmosphere that will encourage and assist
the individual student to develop emotionally and mentally
into a mature, responsible, independent, and self-respecting
adult.
- To provide classroom and instructional facilities which
meet specified standards.
- To provide assistance in employment opportunities for
those students who have completed the training programs
and/or can meet employment standards required in vocational
proficiency and character traits.
- To provide AAS degree seeking students with appropriate
General Education knowledge and skills in English, Math,
Speech, Psychology, and Physical Science

An application or re-application
fee and a testing fee per component are charged for each Application
for Admission submitted.
Tuition is paid by the semester.

your host campus for a complete projected cost of this program.
The college accepts cash, personal
and company checks, MasterCard or Visa for all fees. A percentage
of tuition and fees are refundable up to the tenth day of instruction.
No refund will be made after the tenth day.
