Technical Education and the Future
Technical education is paving the way towards the workplace
of tomorrow. As technology rapidly changes and is increasingly
being used by U.S. companies, the skills required to compete for
jobs are shifting.
In order to succeed in the new workplace, American workers
need solid skills to add value to their company quickly. The new
workplace rewards individuals who have both a basic education
plus professional and technical skills. There is current high
demand for qualified workers who are trained in information
technology, conduct laboratory tests, or repair high tech
equipment and even more so those skilled in construction and
health services. Successful employees must package themselves
with a marketable portfolio of skills.
It's a fact that the largest employment growth is happening
in jobs considered "skilled." Job growth in careers considered
to be "professional" jobs (doctors, lawyers, etc.) is showing
the least growth. There are now more opportunities available in
careers that require specific, technical and/or skilled ability
than any other type of career field. And most jobs will require
some form of education beyond high school, but not necessarily a
four-year degree.
Companies are seeking employees that are familiar with the
high tech environment it takes to run their particular industry
and skills necessary to produce quality products. Those who get
a good deal of hands-on experience (in labs, through
apprenticeships or co-ops) will stand the best chance of
success.
Louisiana Technical College is the leader in preparing the
workforce for these new jobs. And technical education in
Louisiana has remained responsive to the education and training
needs of Acadiana business and industry. This training
responsiveness and flexibility continues to play a central role
in encouraging employers to invest in expanding markets. The
Greater Acadiana Region is unwavering in its commitment to
provide training and education which supports the economic
development of the state.
We invite you to visit our campuses and partner with us to

We are excited about the success you can achieve!
